What is a Soaking Bathtub?

Close your eyes and picture the most relaxing room in your house.

Does your bathroom come to mind? If not, maybe it’s time to think about adding a new bathtub to your space.

One of the most appealing aspects of a bathtub is that it gives you the ability to sit, soak and relax at the end of a long day. Taking a bath has even been proven to have an effect on lowering stress levels! But, did you know there are bathtubs specifically made for soaking, and that some standard tubs are not meant to sustain a long bath?

Soaking bathtub vs. standard bathtub

A soaking bathtub is similar to a standard bathtub, but with some added features. For example, a soaking bathtub is larger and deeper than a standard bathtub, so it can hold more water and allow you to fully submerge your body under the water. Soaking bathtubs are usually around 6 inches deeper than a standard tub, however, there are many different styles of soaking bathtubs, so the specific dimensions may vary.

Benefits of soaking in a tub

Health Line spoke to Dr. Bobby Buka, a dermatologist based in New York, who says, “‘Your skin releases endorphins in response to the soothing warm water the same way that endorphins are released when you feel the sun on your skin.’ He explains that submerging ourselves in hot water can be both therapeutic and reinvigorating because blood flow increases to the skin.” So, if a soak in the tub can be this good for you, consider investing in a bathtub that is made for soaking!

What does Herl’s carry?

We proudly carry Jacuzzi® Brand bathtubs, who have released different styles of soaking bathtubs that allow for heat to be transferred and preserved through the duration of your bath. Water can be circulated throughout the jets in order to cycle warmer water in as it naturally begins to cool. This allows you to enjoy your soak longer than you’d be able to comfortably do so in a traditional tub.

Additionally, Herl’s walk-in bathtubs from Jacuzzi® are some of the only walk-in tubs that are made to handle the use of Epsom salt. Most walk-in tubs do not recommend using Epsom and other bathing salts because it can damage the tub material and the seal around the door. Epsom salts are proven to help soothe aches throughout the body and they can make your soak more enjoyable.
