How to Clean Your Walk-In Tub

How to clean your walk-in tub

Few things in life are as relaxing as sitting down in your walk-in tub for a nice long soak. But, nothing ruins that relaxing vibe faster than noticing that your beautiful tub is full of dirt and grime. It’s important to clean your walk-in tub, not only to keep it looking good but to ensure that it functions properly for years to come.

Luckily, when you buy a walk-in tub from Herl’s, you’ll have peace of knowing that we use high-quality materials that require minimal care and maintenance! However, even the best tubs will need to be cleaned periodically.

What causes your walk-in tub to get dirty?

Of course, use over time will cause your walk-in tub to accumulate dirt and grime, but there are specific products that can cause it to get dirty faster than others. Oils from your skin, hair, and beauty products will cause build-up and contribute to a dirty tub. Try to avoid using oil-based products while you bathe to help keep your tub cleaner for longer.

Similarly, soap and shampoo residue will eventually lead to a build-up of soap scum on your tub’s floor and walls. Not only is it unsightly, but it can become slippery, making it easier for you to fall when standing in the tub.

How to keep your walk-in tub clean

You’ll never want to clean your walk-in tub with harsh, abrasive cleaners, as that could damage your tub’s material. This means you should stay away from bleach, aerosol cleaners, and ammonia-based products. Instead, we recommend using gentle cleaners like dishwashing soap, white vinegar, and warm water.

To clean the jets in your tub, you can purchase a jet tub cleaning system that is formulated to gently clean out the inner workings of your jet tub. Or, you can clean them yourselves by filling your tub with enough warm water to cover the jets and adding in a mixture of dishwashing soap and white vinegar. Turn on your jets and let them run for a few minutes, then turn them off, drain and rinse the tub. Fill the tub again with enough warm water to cover the jets and turn them back on for a few more minutes again, to clear out the cleaning solution, then turn them off and drain your tub a final time. That’s all you have to do!
